I'm wondering, but can't quite picture it here in my head. Is there a way to have a controlled decent on the friction saver after your done with it when you go to pull it out of the tree? Can you do it without tying on the throw line while your up there?

Might be a dumb question, but I just can't picture it.

Thanks.

If it's a regular ring and ring friction saver then you can do a controlled removal from the ground. Just tie a throwline to the spliced eye side (or terminal attachment point side) of your climbing line and retrieve as you normally would. By keeping a hand lightly on the throwline you can prevent the friction saver from plummeting to the ground.

Yup! The throwline will make kind of a small spider web through the ring and ring and over the branch, but it all comes down nice and smooth and controlled. Once you've got your rope back on the ground untie the throwline and pull it back out and your done.

i always remove my friction saver while im in the tree. that way it doesnt get battered and if it gets stuck then i can get to it easier.
