Pfanner Protos arborist helmet

Bear with me on this one. I know there have been other threads on these helmets and from what I see most people are saying they are not rated for chipper use. From what I remember anything over 85db can cause hearing loss. As chippers seem to chuck out noise levels in excess of 85db hearing protection is a must. One web site I came across is advertising the Protos as being SNR = 26db. That doesn't sound very much especially if my top handle (Stihl 201 chucks out 98db). So is it the length of time exposed to the sound that counts and if so is there anything out there in WWW land that states what it is?

Chainsaws run at about 110 decibels,so eardefenders that have a rating of 26 snr means you subtract that 26 from the 110 decibels which is 84 decibels.Concidering a normal conversation is at around 65 decibels thats not bad.

Try for ear protection around 30 odd snr,if you cant get muff type ear protection you can get the push in foam/latex ones which usually have a high snr rating.
