Hallo everybody.

I'm planning on enrolling with Tree-life start my Arboriculture education. All part of my Career change. Was previously 9 years in Sales in the Merchant Industry. Though I am a lover of the outdoors, I'm always Hiking in the Chilterns and further afield. I have an Amateur Hobbyist interest in Trees and Fungi... so I'm planning to turn this interest into a Career I'm interested in doing.

I'm 36 years old, and not really interested in the Climbing cutting side of the Industry; it's the Science, theory, management, ecology side of the Industry that really perks my interest. After doing some research on this Forum and other areas and had some good conversations with Tree-life... it seems the best route is to work towards Survey & Consultancy. With perhaps a view to going into the academic side much further into the future, mind.

So I would like to ask any one if they have taken a journey into Arboriculture by by-passing the cutting/climbing aspect...and is it more than doable, with hardwork of course, in your opinion.

After a quick search on the Web I see that are there are many Consultancy Companies out there. In your opinion would they consider to employ some one like me who is going through Tree-life Level 2/4/6 with out previous experience on the Cutting/Climbing aspect.

Also what I need to do is gain some sort of experience. ( I currently work in Security to help with flexibility of time management). So my days off are always in the week... I am going to venture my self for volunteering. In your opinion would Consultancy Companies be open to taking a volunteer one or two days a week. I will also contact the National Trust, Woodland trust, local estates ect along these lines too.

Thank you very much for reading, and sharing your experience & opinions.

Cheers.

Graham.
