Hi all

I have just enrolled on my ABC Level 2 Award through HCC with the idea of converting it to my RFS Level 2 once completed.

Whilst I have studied a diploma in Countryside Management to Level 3 Extended standard I am still very much a beginner when it comes to general arboricultural knowledge.

Whilst I am know the portfolio contains recommended reading are there any staples "nuts and bolts" books for beginners who need to start at an entry level when it comes to the arb side?

I have had a good look around the forum and online but a lot of the info seems to be more relevant to the Level 3/4 side of things.

Thanks for reading and any help offered :001_smile:

Collins Tree Guide

Modern Arboriculture - Alex Shigo

The Principles of Tree Hazard Assessment and Management - David Lonsdale

Diagnosis of Ill Health in Trees - Strouts and Winter

Those I would say are the corner stones, I'm sure other people will mention others.

Beyond that the Forestry Commission, Arboricultural Association, RFS, RHS, LTOA and other websites have a lot of fantastic pdf's on a lot of subjects which are well worth a read. Books are great but can be expensive, the internet is a fantastic resource these days!!

Thanks guys - great help!

In relation to the Collins Guide I assume that is the Owen Johnson one and not the Paul Sterry reference guide?

Trees Their Natural History 2nd Edition by Peter Thomas is an excellent book.

As mentioned previously, Gilmans The Illustrated Guide to Pruning is another cracking book.

I forgot to mention that, fantastic book!
