Shindaiwa 352s

I got hold of the above for $20 aus (about 10 sterling)

the chap said it was lacking compression and he thought the piston may have been knackered.

I took it to bits and cleaned it, the carb was gunky inside so cleaned with carb cleaner.

I took the cylinder off to look at the piston which was smooth and clean, as was the inside of the cylinder.

once I'd put it all back together (with no spare bits!) it did start.

The chain would not run freely , it was really stiff and I have seen more meat on a skeleton! Also the sprocket at the end of the bar wouldn't move freely , it was really stiff. So I removed them. I have a spare B&C which I fitted.

When cleaning the carb I took the L & H needles out and reset them from info gained here

http://www.golftechs.us/Manuals/shin...aw_current.pdf

As I said it starts and runs but it is quite smokey especially when revving.

Please could someone advise on what to do to "tune" it

I only have a screwdriver and ears!

Thanks

Mike

There's probably a lot of oil in the crank. Get it running and run it till it is properly warmed up on fresh fuel with the correct oil ratio. Is it low on compression or is it the easy start confusing the issue ? Look on Youtube for tuning a saw videos they are a good source of information and pretty much the same for all makes.

Thanks .... you tube ... should have thought!

I am still having trouble getting it right though.

the carb settings I found are L=2 5/8 out H= 2 3/4 out

Also where should the idle screw be for initial carb settings?

I set the idle fast enough to keep the saw running while adjusting the L screw then turn it down to stop the clutch throwing out once it doesn't stall. I can't say if there's a setting for it like the other two screws.
