I'd agree on the asking Euroforest. They may be very happy to sell you a one-off wagon load of one spec/size.

Each area of the UK has its own manager and if you ask HQ for your area managers name and you can get to talk to that person you'll be moving forward.

You may well have to pay a little more to divert a wagon and possible penalties from such as Giddings which is a BSW mill now.

Another option is to find an independant round timber merchant and go that way.

Hi all looking to buy from the forestry comission and wondered how the process works,

1. For instance a lot is for sale and for argument sake is 1000 tonnes firstly can you bid on specific amount?

2. Each lot has a start and end time is this the period when they are accepting bids or is this the time of when they start the felling, I've looked at one which has 6 month between the start and finish but the lot is only 100t

3. I presume you arrange your own haulage, at what point do you do this?

4. Finally does it work out any cheaper?

I've looked at the website and answered some of my questions and these are the final ones I tried to call but not there on a weekend and struggle to call mid week to busy, you know how it is!!,

Hence this thread.

Hi I use E sales and if you look at the lots ones starting with 1. are standing sales and ones starting 2. are roadside log sales. Yes there are lots of 1000s tonnes but these will be bought by big mills or kronospan that want several hundred tonnes a week. You can send messages to them or contact the forest manager if the lot is at roadside go and see it for yourself. The start time and finish time is when you have to clear the wood by.There are smaller lots of 100 or so tonnes it is just a case of looking around .You will need a credit account to buy which would need to be set up first. If you bid and are sucessfull you will be told so and a contract sent then you have to get it hauled.

I doubt it is cheaper but you can buy set quantities and know you have stock

I have just bought another 300 tonnes so am sure ofmy suplies.

Hope this is of help Chris.

You could also contact local fc office if your only looking for smallerloads I did this and would get a couple of wagon loads every month would also get offered cheap loads to clear sites at end of contracts.

Don't get if you don't ask
