Old Pruning Guide

This is a bit of a long shot, but I'm trying to find a title of a book that I read probably in the eighties, which was probably old then.

I've no idea of the author or title, but it described and identified the pruning requirements of different species. From what I can remember, it described common faults such as co-dominant stems that required removal at planting, going on to specify pruning works that might be necessary at different stages of the trees growth. I think it included age bands up to 200-300yrs.

I know that it wasn't specific to fruit trees and assume that it wasn't a forestry book, as I seem to remember that the section on oaks stated that in the mature stage deadwooding should be the only requirement. (I can't see that being necessary at that stage for a timber crop)

I'm sure if anyone has read it/got a copy, they'll know the book I'm looking for, because I've never read anything that covers the timespan that it does.

Any suggestions to further my search would be appreciated.:thumbup1:
