Prevent discs from checking?

Only other thing to consider is that the rings can be quite brittle when dry as they only have short longitudinal fibres. Both this and the checking are the reason that you see very few wood turnings done radially.

 

It does look great though.

 

What bar and Alaskan Mill combo have you got there? I've got the 362, but haven't got the mill yet. Was going to get the 24inch and upgrade to longer rails if I get a bigger saw.

Awesome thanks guys! I found a supplier of Pentacryl to soak the discs in and let them sit and dry for a couple weeks, ill report back on that. Would you guys be able to help identify the wood that I have if I took pictures of the stumps?

 

Edit: Hamburglar its a used Granberg Alaskan Mill (I havent used it yet) I havent measured it exactly but I believe its a 30"... and a stock 24" bar.
