When my fire was installed they used fireboards in the cavity and said that I could use ordinary paint on them. I've never actually painted the boards because the colour is fine and I couldn't be bothered really! A thought came into my head that a reflective paint could be applied to radiate more heat into the room. Has anyone done this and if so, how effective is it? It's expensive stuff to buy so I thought I'd do a bit of research before going to the shop.

I think of my heath and stone fireplace as heat sinks. After the burners out they give the grreat back to the room.

Love the metal idea! Maybe consider an ecofan. They have a large following.

ive got an eco fun it does make a different in terms of distributing heat around the room and obviously it sucks the warm air out of trapped area and blows it out so i think it does the job.mine cost 50 off ebay
