land rover 110 tipper conversion

Joined this forum some sometime ago but as computer time is scarce, this is my first post.

I have a 110 that I would like to convert to a tipper and have a few questions that some of you may be able to answer.

I plan to use the truck pretty intensively so am thinking that a purpose built job is justified.I am based near Exeter,Devon, but as yet have not been able to find anyone to do the job locally who doesnt want nearly 5k.

Unless any of you can suggest someone better/closer,was thinking of trying MCB Tipton,West Midlands.Maxwell seemed pretty pleased with the job they did for him.

The other thing I am unsure about is tool storage. As the 110 wheelbase is short Im thinking keep the body short(to avoid rear axle overload)and get the volume I need by going upwards.

Would I do better to have roof mount tool storage to keep load as far forward as possible maybe at the expense of easy access,or toolbox built into body, which most of you seem to have, easier access to saws and equipment I suppose, but spreading the load over a greater area and further back.

Maybe this is a negligble difference, just hoping for some opinions from those that know before I hand over my hard earned money!

Thanks.

bought a 110 hi cap from SHB 4x4 hire last year with the intention converting it. I looked at both options of buying one already set up and ready to go vs designing and having the box built bespokly. It did cost a lot more doing it from scratch but the results are well worth it. I used TGS coach works in Bristol- very helpful and very accommodating. I have spent a lot on it, up rating the springs, reverse camera, alloys, off road tyres, hands free kit, 8 LED amber flashing strobes and lots of other small bits to aid working. I reccomend doing it yourself as you run the risk of buying a whole host of someone else's problems. More than happy for you to have a look a mine if your in the reading area!

Thanks for the replies.Gives me a few more options to consider.

Definitely think custom built is the way to go as it gives you the ideal set up for your own circumstances which makes sense for something that's a long term purchase, especially if it will be used intensively.

I was hoping to buy a body and tipping gear and have it sent out to fit ourselves to avoid parting with the truck(unless its very local)-but so far I am told they are only supplied fitted to chassis(ie need the truck).

Will keep asking around and then go with what seems like the best option.

Will let you all know how it goes.
