Tree Magic / SRT??

when using your footlocking techniques to access large trees,it always looks to me that you are a fair bit out from the trunk(compared to prussiking) i take it when you are well up, you just make your way over to the trunk to put in your main line.can this be quite awkward?

True Srt and footlocking are best done away from the trunk, but as long as you can get a line in somewhere where you will be able to stand on a branch when you get high enough then it should be easy to switch to normal climbing system and carry on climbing branches until you get to you final tie in point.

If you climbed off a ladder and did alternate rope technique to the top then you might not necessarily want to be that close to the trunk?

Footlocking up to the underside of the lowest branch in the tree, six feet from the trunk will just leave you stuck so proper routeplanning and a higer throwline position is required.
