A little advice is needed, I have a very large Turkey oak, beautiful tree, I have just noticed from the ground up to about 8ft there is a sort of Chanel going up the tree, and the wood looks a bit decayed within. The canopy of the tree is beautiful, however there are some signs of brown on the leaf edges, there are a number of dead branches, which are hardly visible as the canopy is so dense, a few years ago I asked an Aborist if it required any attention, and he said the tree was a wonderful specimen, and it would look after itself, I am now in some doubt, as I would hate to lose the tree, and even worse if it fell, I dread to think. So any advice would be appreciated.
