Damaged PulleySaver

Hey,

A smallish nick has appeared on my PulleySaver (see pics) and I am unsure about how serious the damage is. It looks like it has been caused by something sharp, with damage to the outer sheath only. I'd really appreciate input from those of you qualified to judge such things (any LOLER inspectors around?). I understand there's no substitute for a real first-hand inspection, so what I'm hoping for is just "at first glance", if any of you feel comfortable doing that... If there's any doubt at all I will retire the device.

Thanks :)

Thomas

I think the pulley saver line is sirius kernmantle rope, the outer layer is a cover protecting the core. The problem with a nick in this location is you can't monitor it. Personally I'd hang it up and load it then inspect it. Isn't the semi rigid eye a 'slaice', with a length of dyneema webbing inside it anyway....?

I,m not familiar with the construction other than it just have a portion of the core removed to house the rubber stiffy thingy, so would "assume" the outer is load bearing.

Thanks very much for your help so far guys

WorcsWuss, thanks for the input re: test loading - I'll definitely give that a shot :)

I'm leaning towards retiring it/ seeing if I can get hold of a replacement strop with eye. That'll mean sending it away for repair,so I'll need another in the mean time (if I don't go back to ring-to-ring...)

A couple more pics for the sheer hell of it :D

Again, cheers for the rapid response!

Not sure. Aren't these type of splice normally quite 'flat'...? Presumably the dyneema tape is wrapped in the stiffy inside the cover....? Lord knows....! :laugh1:
