Insurance for consultants

Do consultants need public liability insurance? Professional indemnity is an obvious one but can't really see how walking around with a clipboard doing surveys and writing reports is going to result in injury to a MOP.

Thanks in advance for your advice

Hi

We would recommend that Public Liability is taken out as it covers the legal liability to pay damages to third parties, e.g. members of the public, for death, bodily injury or damage to their property that occurs as a result of your business activities.

A good example of the necessity of Public Liability is a case we recently dealt with:

A client had a claim on their policy following an accident in which a third party fell down a flight of stairs. The injuries sustained included a spinal fracture and a double skull fracture with a possibility of some brain damage. The damages for this type of injury, which could happen to almost anyone, could easily exceed £5,000,000, and possibly even £10,000,000.

I hope this helps. We'd be happy to go through this in more detail with you if you want - 0113 259 3560 / [email protected]

Thanks

Jessica
