Only once the stockpiles ran out. Then they mobilised the whole country to work in factories making aircraft, tanks, ammo etc. One of the 'advantages' back then was that most women didn't have full time jobs, so they could be brought in to work in factories. It's one thing to get someone to give up washing and scrubbing to to become a machine operator, quite another to pull them from their hard won profession.
