Iso9001???

Hi Guys just wanted some information on Quality management systems and ISO 9001

Wether it's worth it and what systems do you have in place?

 

Does your business run better with etc....

Depends what sort of work your chasing. Don't pay over the odds for it. Few of the off the shelf solutions unstandardised Arb and Forestry.

 

If your not careful you'll get sold an overly complex system / manual. After all there is a big difference between quality management for a company producing aircraft parts and your average tree surgery company!

You should be aware that ISO 9001 certification says nothing about the quality of your work. It only ensures that you have management processes in place to handle quality related issues, and can document the level of your quality.

 

I am very doubtful that it would be worth your investment (time and money) in the end. Which potential customer would choose you because of an ISO 9001 certification?

 

If you have time (and money) on your hands, I'd rather spend the time improving your website (if you have one) or other marketing related initiatives. That would be more likely to have a positive return on investment.

Yeah I understand that but I have ploughed a lot into other advertising website Internet and other acredetations!

 

The problem is is that where I run my business the area is totally overran by tree surgery businesses doing domestic work so it's a struggle to get constant work and a decent price on any job as customers are getting like 5 quotes!

 

So I have spent a lot of time contacting housing associations councils and other large companies but on every application form I fill in it asks do you have quality systems in place or are you ISO 9001 accredited and it seems this is a must to get any work from them!

 

So if ISO 9001 is not worth it I need information on what quality systems people have in place so I can implement them so I can show proof to these companies??

OK, I stand corrected. If your potential customers are actively requesting (or even asking about) quality management systems, it may have a value.

 

I just haven't ever had any such requests myself.

I come from an aircraft manufacturing background where 9001 and 14001 amongst others are common place.

 

I dont see how these standards could be implemented to any great degree. h+s, qualifications and safety procedure along with training progression.

 

As for customer base then I dont think these standards are applicable to the domestic client as it is more corperations that look for it but to be honest not many of them truly know the ins and outs of it. A lot of bullshit that they are told "its a good thing" by there boss and told to look for it in companies.

 

Maybe pursue it if you were really trying for big local authority contracts etc
