Has anyone used the Husqvarna Rancher 455 as im looking at buying one for under £100, is it worth it?

A Rancher is a halfway house between Home owner and pro saw, it won't set your world alight with its speed but it will cut your firewood for years to come in a decent way and spares will be available for years to come.

 

Sub £100 is a bargain, buy it or I will:thumbup:

 

Just make sure it starts, idles and runs OK unless you are a tech!

Will certainly be faster, try a 15" bar - Oregon Microlite with 95VPX is worth a go, narrow kerf and fast cutting.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I've just looked at a 'Rancher 50 1998' (at least thats what the fella in the local garden tools shop says it is) that they took part-ex'. It has an 18 inch bar.

 

I know very little about engines, but he said the compression felt good with a pull on the starter - it was a relatively stiff pull

 

Looks a bit tired, but they will fully service it for me.

 

They want £145, with a 3 month warrantee.

 

Does this sound good?

The price sound high for a 14 year old saw. They were't wonderful even when new.

The price is a bit high but the shop is offering a 3 month warranty and service so as long as the bar, chain and sprocket are OK it isn't a too bad buy.

 

My advice - if you buy it then use it hard for 3 months and any fault - back to the shop:thumbup:

 

They aren't great saws but they last for years and having serviced a 28 year old one that came up looking spanking, they last prety well.

 

Seen other people buy saws for low prices and then have to pay someone like me a wedge to get them going properly as they didn't quite live up to expectations:thumbdown:
