MM is good but you will need a windows operating system! This is the downfall for me as windows sucks!

I'm trying to work it out from the videos etc on their site. But say you wanted to add a marker on one spot with a annotation, is that possible? Can you prep routes on it too?

Their website is hard work!

GPS devices like Garmin oregon 400t is great for this

I know Tone, what I really want is a Garmin/Ipad set up mounted in the landrover, it would be ideal for surveying sites and general estate work. However funds are short for that kind of set up, so instead looking at mounting a laptop instead that can cope with both tasks until we can justify the thick end of £1k on it.

you can also get cheap GPS receivers that connect to your laptop. I have an Evermore GM-R900 which i plug into my laptop and i can do all the things that a normal gps can do, except i have a nice big map also :) it also is magnetic and waterproof so easy to mount

Yes you can just drop a pin onto the map and add details. You can also set the route before you go. If you get 1:25000 maps you can fly the route in air photo mode!

I also have MM on my aye phone but it's not as good as a laptop, maybe better on an iPad?
