It does open a lot of doors. Yea the jobs it opens up are more office based but increasingly head forester/head woodsman which are say 90% practical would like a degree.

Hmm this is such a tough choice!! As i dont see myself in that position anyway in the future, but who can tell what the future holds?

I agree, if your looking at management a degree is a must these days as well as experience doing the job your applying for as there's not a lot out there at the moment. I'm still working for myself and off to do level 4 in arb this year, my degree is in Landscape management as I'm interested in the rural and urban landscape as a whole. so arb, management plans, eia's, ecology, soil and plant science etc.

It enables me to offer a wider and more specialist service, and some customers are quite impressed with the degree:blushing:

Maybe next year the modules will become more interesting and you'll enjoy it more.

I joined the forces when I left school and would say that I would'nt have done as well an uni back then.

It will only benefit you having a degree.

yeah, very usefull advice this! i mean id love to have it on paper saying i have a degree in forestry and woodland managment, but if i dont enjoy any of it then it doesnt make sense to try make a career out of it? this is my argument anyway.

its easy to say yeah ill stay two more years and get the degree, but i might not get it in 2 years as i may fail a year, also the silly amount of debt im building up at uni doesnt seem like its going to be worth it overall :S

Your right, it is a lot of money and dept for something your not sure that you even want to do.

Maybe cut your losses, see where your life takes you for a few years and then think again.

Best of luck whatever you choose, sure you'll make the right decision.:thumbup1:

Thanks alot mate its really helped! and same with all the other advice, at the end of the day it comes down to what i want to do best i suppose! no point having a miserable job just to say i have a degree! :001_smile:

I'm currently in my 2nd year doing Forest and Woodland management at Newton Rigg and to be honest I do enjoy it but the first year is the better year as is in the 2nd year it all gets just that little bit more tedious. Have you wondered about going on placement next year and then come back for one more year and get a foundation degree?
