Oak log

I went to look at a big knarly oak butt at the weekend , with a view to buying it to mill.

I think the seller saw it as a 4ft diam log. I saw it as nearer 3ft under the sap wood and taking into account the taper. The classic quote "It's worth more for firewood" was spoken.

So would you firewood guys actually buy such a log? It was lying in a paddock not far from hardstanding. Say it weighed about 5 ton.

How much would you pay?

John

No,us firewood guys would offer people like your good self the chance of something of your benefit numerous times until we got to the age of around 35 and realised it was mostly a waste of time and chop a 5 ton log into 8 cubic metres of firewood! No offence intended but its muck and brass
