it works the same but i prefer to tie the bowline every time because i dont trust the crab so much as the gate can open (very rarely) i still use that system sometimes anyway but when it gets to heavier stuff i prefer to use the knot as a preference

the best way to attach to clean timber is clove hitch backed up with 2 half hitches running bowline for forks never use karabiners around timber unless you move it up the rope and slings are probably the quickest but always good to be able to attach with minimum kit

clove hitch is good as well but it can get real tight and difficult to undo on the ground sometimes. i would still go for the bowline but when it gets to real big heavy stuff i will change to the timber hitch. They all work, its just preference and a bit of common sense with whatever situation you are in.

ok that really helps ive been reading the art and science of practical rigging just bought some pulleys so just gonna try some stuff out as i havent really worked in arb just finished college and year ago and just got my tickets so its all new but thanks alot for help and advice
