Green wood porch

Hi,

I have a porch that needs replacing on a house where I work. We hoped to make it from green oak, but have not got the correct timber length in oak. We have plenty of sweet chestnut though. Are there any problems with using it for a porch. The roof is very small and so not too weighty. We thought maybe 5" by 5" to match an oak porch on the other side of the house. It will be stained black.

Any thoughts appreciated

Alex

Porch finished and roofed. Used the sweet chesnut as 4x4 posts and beam and 4x2 rafters. Lovely looking wood but had to be stained to match the black timbers of the 300+ yr old cottage.

The wood was easy to work green. put a couple of small natural edge planks as seats where the tenant sits out and smokes!
