9523 003 4385 is the part number and was used on all 084 saws.

Well I'll correct myself on this one. 9523 003 4385 was not used on all 084 saws. Before the end of 1991 part number 9523 003 4380 was used. I believe the difference between these two may be the fact the -4380 has an inner shield? but I am pretty sure they are fully interchangable.

If there are no more 084 barrel and pistons, will a 880 kit fit and fit a new top cover with the decompressor on the right side? I thought the only differance is the decompressor is on the other side? Bought a husky 3120xp because cheap barrel and pistons are available, going to see how it goes and may sell my 084 in the future.

2012 is the last year that 084 piston and cylinder kits will be available from the factory. So they may still be available here. You would be looking at £300+ excl VAT.

Unfortunately putting an 088/MS880 top end on a 084 would likley not be economically feasible. The bolt spacing for the cylinder base is different. The 084 cylinder to muffler fixing is completely different to the one on 088 and MS880 saws before 2009 and I would guess the new MS880 cylinder wouldn't work with the 084 muffler either. Like you mention you would have to modify the top shroud also and likely the chain brake.
