hi

i have recently purchased an ms180 13" saw and have also purchased a 12" carving bar and chain will i need to adjust the sprocket on the ms 180 for the new bar to fit properly?

as long as the pitch and gauge on the new chain is the same you will be ok, if the pitch is different then you will need to get a new sprocket for it

 

So, as the MS 180 is "born" with a 3/8" pitch "Picco" (low profile) chain (and matching sprocket), you'll be alright if the carving chain is also 3/8" pitch.

If you have a 1/4" pitch carving chain, you'll need a new 1/4" pitch sprocket.

id image your bar is going to be 1/4" so yes you'll need to change the sprocket. make sure you go to a stihl dealer who knows what they're talking about too...as when i did the exact same thing and asked the local dealer for a sprocket i was told stihl didnt make a 1/4" pitch sprocket for the ms180
