Yew Tree Wood

We have permission to cut down a large yew tree in our garden. I saw a post from someone with sawn yew wood and several boat builders replied that they were desperate for yew wood in longer lengths.

We would like to sell as much wood as possible and could get the tree surgeon to cut to the required sizes.

Location: Gloucestershire, Cotswolds

Keep the timber as long as possible, and offer the log to sawmills, or take size orders from the boaty types and have it milled to that size. The root ball is worth very good money to woodturners too, as are all the branches as long as they have some colour in the centre (even down to about 1 1/" diameter can be turned.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Tomme9, that sounds like good advice. I'm not sure we can get the root ball out - the tree is close to a shed and wall - but worth asking our tree surgeon.
