Hi - just wondered if anyone knew the answer to this. I have an Isuzu NKR on which I'm planning to put on a box arrangement to catch the chips from my chipper. I Know its Christmas but scruge was modelled on me. To that end I'v looked at having firms like tipmaster build for me but the prices blow me away. I've done a shed load of fibre glass and aluminium constructions through the years and know I can build what I want for a fraction of the cost. What I dont know is what legislation covers the build quality/construction methods/materials etc for this type of job and does it come under any form of vosa inspection, if indeed there are any?

 

Also has anyone else done a home build like this?

There is no legislation that covers it. The vehicle must be roadworthy etc etc. and the driver is responsible for loading it, and that would include checking the the chip box is not going to fall off mid journey!

If you are happy working with aluminium then the ally planking route would be ideal. SOmeone will have a link for a supplier I'm sure.

Hi I bought double skin ali t ang g boarding extended the corners rivited on a lip to butt the sides to and bobs your uncle, It cost about £700 and took a day to do. A mate of mine didnt want to spend that much so spent weeks welding and bolting and made a steel frame lined with ply that flaps about like you wouldnt belive, He s always right in his eyes but he admitted that he should have done the same as me as he wasnt happy with the finished result and it had cost him nearly a grand.
