Yes they can! there are several round here that have been colour matched.

 

You need a primer suitable for ally. I'd visit a spray shop if you want it to match your truck

 

That was it, the alloy thing, paint just flakes off alloy like you see on resprayed Landrover defenders, so there is a special primer that goes on before. I will visit a spray shop with my hilux.

 

Those Ifor tops look bad after a couple of years, even with cleaning, a good paint job would make them easier to keep clean.

yes there is, i can't remember the name of the one I used to use, A lot of people will tell you galvanised steel can't be painted it can you just use etched primer.

Been doing some research, Iron Oxide Primer is whats used for bare metal.

I think that what you're looking for to prime ally is Zinc Oxide primer, I seem to remember using this on the old Crittall windows (which were ally). This primer will give maximum adhesion to the ally surface. So this should work on galvanised surfaces too.
