best chain link gauge ?

:wave:Greetings - My first thread !

I am a part timer, who has both stihl and husky saws of various sizes. I use them for general tree work and milling. Because of the different makes I have different bars and chain link gauge's: husky 0.058 (1.5) and stihl 0.063 (1.6).

I am looking at standardizing my equipment, so that i can exchange bars between machines (where applicable) and buy chain in bulk for cost saving.

Husky chain is narrower, therefore should cut quicker and when milling gives narrower kerf, but at only 0.1 mm difference stihl might be preferable for obtaining ripping/normal chains locally.

Any comments would be appreciated.

I think your only option for what your saying you do would be 3/8s pitch on a 0.058 gauge as you should be able to get bars for youre bigger stihl and it will be ok on most the huskys as well, oregon also produce a ripping chain in this spec so you are cover for milling.

i dont think swapping bars will work as to my knowledge there are none that take the same fittings. But you will make a saving on chain if you make lots of loops up

hope this is of some use,

Charlie
