This was my problem, I've been pleased with the hot knife method til now.

When my cord arrived it had been cut but then had a small section of clear heat shrink put over the ends which also seems to do the trick. Only problem is I hadnt got any heat shrink.

Sharp Knife does the trick, after a few cuts your knife won't be so sharp as this type of material take the edge of real quick.

I have also used a product called Plasti Dip, it is used to dip tools like plyers to put the rubber grip on the handles.

Works a treat on rope, you can just dip the end of the rope in and let it dry. stays there forever and you can get different colours.
