Trees and stormwater management

I think the free-draining nature of the soil can be addressed to some degree through appropriate species choice.

The seminar mentioned above, as far as I can tell is about extending the use of the structural soil system to provide storm water storage, so I guess the trees in paved areas would be receiving similar rainfall to those in open ground... either that or they will get drowned!

The design gives the trees water from the roof runoffs but if the water is exessive the water will pass the beds and run down the normal drainage, thus giving the recipients a decreased amount to deal with and impact delay.

Ive been involved in a project where trees that were 30 years were dying due to bad planting pit conditions, the trees were felled and replanted in porous beds "Stockholm style" and the result is 30cm growth every year! This was 7 years ago and the trees are almost as big as the old ones!

The seminar will be held in English since several of the invited guests are non Swedish speaking. English is widely spoken in Sweden as we start learning english in school at the age of 9 and is complusory for 6 years.

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and is easy to access from several destinations in the UK to its airport Arlanda, or the smaller one Skavsta that runs several daily flights from Stanstead.

If anyone missed the link to the invitation i'll repeat it;storm Trees

Xerxses, the cost for the workshop is very reasonable and Stockholm is a beautiful city...but I can't get from here to there in such short notice, I would need to tie so many other things into such a trip to make it worth the costs...what I was wondering was whether it would be possible to buy the proceedings (if they are to be published?) after the workshop has been run?

Ah I get you now...

I dont know if there will be any written proceedings. The handbook is online and free to use I assume. I will attend the seminar and PM you any written material I can get hold of.

Good pictures and perhaps understandable after google translation...
