Seeking Advice on Tree Pruning Techniques

Question

Hi ArbTalk Community,

I am searching for some guidance on tree pruning strategies, especially in regards to develop fruit trees. I have a few apple and pear trees in my nursery that need pruning but I'm unsure about the best approach to ensure healthy growth and a good harvest.

In particular, I need to be aware:

Q.1 What are the suggested pruning practices for mature fruit trees, including timing and frequency?
Q.2 How can I identify and safely remove dead or diseased branches without harming the tree?
Q.3 Are there any special considerations or techniques for pruning fruit-bearing branches to optimize fruit production?

Any experiences, tips, or suggested resources would be greatly valuable. Much thanks to you ahead of time for your skill.

Best Regards,

Steve
