Hey folks, I have a large, beautiful tree in my back yard that last night inexplicably had a massive branch (foot diameter) sheer off. You'll see from the pictures that the tree has a single trunk that has split really early on into two trunks that are now 50+ feet tall each. About 15 feet up one of the trunks had an offshoot that went off at about a 90 degree angle. That offshoot was about a foot in diameter and has split and fallen. When it fell it stripped a ton of bark off the tree. The big issue is the main trunk that it fell off continues up for 50 feet or so. The tree is at least 15 years old and is very green and appears healthy?
My question is, can I save this tree with the damage it has suffered? and if so, how?
