Ranting

Well it certainly doesn't seem like folk round here are short of opinions, so I thought I'd throw out the offer of a space to rant and see what comes in.

At tree-care.info there's a section called The Soapbox. The idea is that we invite contributions from suitably opinionated members of the industry. So if anyone has a subject, arb related, that they are passionate about and want to write a short rant about, PM me with an email address we'll sort something out.

Being a mixed bunch of folks from all over the Uk (and beyond), from groundies to climbers to Arb officers, we are surely going to differ in our opinions on a variety of topics.

My RANT is fact that we have highly skilled personnel here, yet companies think they can treat us like crap. They try to pay as little money as possible for the skills which in many cases take years to hone. They let us down at the drop of a hat, yet expect us to be waiting around for them when they need us back! I can think of at least one good climber, who is having to subsidise his income doing totally non-arb related work. Companies who wont encourage the staff to move with the times, insisting that they use out-dated equipment,, because they worry about the cost. Come on companies, wake up and smell the coffee, its 2007, encourage your staff, and in return you may actually make MORE money, not less!! (Sigh)
