Oak Fungus

Nope, nothing can be done to get rid of it. The only thing you can do is monitor the tree, perhaps get it looked at by an expert. You can also get tests done to determine how much decay is in the tree. This is a butt rotting fungus so there will almost certainly be some. More pics of the tree would be good.

Hi

Thanks for the response, more photos added.

It looks pretty healthy from the outside but has just dropped its acorns. Is there a way from 'looking' at it to understand how long it may stand. I understand I may need to have it cut down eventually but would like to keep it for as long as possible.

More pictures attached.

Thanks

Unfortunately no ones going to be able to tell you how long it will stand. Healthy looking trees can fall on the calmest days, and hollow trees can stand through gale force winds!

From  the photos I don’t see anything setting off alarm bells other than the fungus which should ideally be monitored with a picus test. That’s not cheap though
