Sugar application

Morning all,

Im trying to source reputable information on the application of sugars via ground washes.

I have heard mention of molasses solutions and I believe that Bartlets are proponents of the practice.

Try searching using 'Glyn Percival' as a keyword.

 

You may struggle a bit because IIRC sugar solutions aren't a one size fits all type of thing. You may have to be tree specific in your search to get the information that you're after.

Are you researching for a college question or for a real tree?

 

If it's for a real-life tree, have you considered a woodchip mulch using cherry or hawthorn? Both of these species are sugar rich/high and, I believe, achieve the same ends but over a much longer period of time.

It's for a number of real trees that have been subject to root damage during construction. I have used sugar washes in the past at the request of tree officers in similar circumstances, and have heard of the Bartlets treatment. I just want to be aware of any research or commonly used practices in order to back up my recommendations.
