What Qualifications am I going to need?

Hi there just curious as to what qualifications I will need to set up my own business as a tree surgeon, if I get all nptc qualifications will I be classed as an arborist or not? Or is that a seperate qualification and if so where do you go to do it?

There is absolutely nothing to stop you buying a van, writing Top Cat Professional Arboriculture on the side and off you go!

 

However, i would suggest first of all that you would be better off working for another company for a couple of years and getting some experience of the job, as running your own company you need to be able to deal with nearly any job quickly, effeciently and safely.

 

Failing that, NPTC tickets are the first starting point followed by some evidence of theoretical arboriculture and tree health. This is down to you and how far you want to go, as there is no legal requirement for you to hold anything to call yourself a tree surgeon/arborist
