I'm not really in a position to advise you, as have never been self employed.

But for what it's worth ...

I live and work (CoL) in North London, and as like most other places in the Uk, you don't go long without seeing a truck go past or a couple of firms set up on the same street, or bumping into a gang in a cafe.

The local LA work is covered by big firms ( Gristwood & Toms, City Suburban, Treecare, Connick etc...)

I've had two guys leave my team & set up solo in the last 3/4 years and they're still going strong.

So there's always plenty of work but huge amounts of competition.

In your position, I'd probably bring the buisness along with me to see how you would fit in to the market, but I think I'd focus soley on that, and not try to mix the two, as I believe you'd be up against it.

Colleges churn out huge numbers of eager young bucks looking to pick up an infrastructure, I don't imagine youd have too much trouble selling the hardware down here, if things didn,t pan out.

Best of luck in what ever the decision.
