  1. I came all the way from Brazil (no Arb. culture there folks) for the training course with Rol and it was more than worth it.,so I would like to pass it on. I did my NPCT training and assessment with Roland and his crew (Martin and Jamie) at Roland Heming Forestry & Arb. Rol was really helpful with all the arrangements. The fact they could provide the accommodation and PPE was essential for me due to all the travelling I had to do. The B&B have good roomms and service. Every morning I would have an amazing breakfast in the B&B and walk to the training center, it´s literally just in front of the inn. The facilities are brand new and the equipment is all up to date. The theory and practice were spot on. Both the chainsaw and the climbing courses had a great quality on the practical aspect of the courses. We would go to sites with big trees and where "the job had to be done", so we could get real life situations while being supported by the instructors. The assessments where all schedule right after the course with an independent assessor. Rol offers great facilities, good place for practice, good professionals and practical solutions. But, above all, he, Jamie and Martin are great guys. I could count on them trough all my stay. If anyone is looking for a place to train I can really recommend this guys. For sure I´m coming back for Rigging and Large Tree Fell! roland heming forestry and arboricultural training and assessment WWW.ROLANDHEMING.CO.UK chainsaw and arboriculture training and assessment, course costs, venues, nptc certification, climbing and aerial rescue
  2. Hi all, I'm a former local authority countryside officer, before I was made redundant I set up a number of local community based volunteer groups to manage sites in their area. I've continued to support some of these groups on a voluntary basis, doing chainsaw work, spraying, writing management plans etc. anyway to the point- we have a new volunteer with one of the groups who has his nptc tickets and I've found some funding to put more vols through their chainsaw course so we are now in the market to buy a new saw. We have a very limited budget of £200, I've suggested they go for a secondhand machine but they seem to be set on the idea of getting a mitox. As a compromise I'm thinking of recommending a husqy 135 based on other peoples reviews but I've never used one myself so any first hand info would be great. It will be used for about 2 hrs every other weekend (over winter) mainly cutting multi stemmed willow up to 10" in diameter and the odd stump. Would the 135 be ok for this or would you recomend another saw bearing in mind we have a very limited budget!
  3. Hi All, I am a big believer in doing/getting things from recommendations; whether it is a bit of kit or a training course. So I am keen to pass on my experiences for others. I am new to the industry and I have just completed my CS30 & CS31 with Roland Heming training. It was a fantastic course, with a fantastic instructor (Martin). It made a real difference being trained by someone who still does the job and was able to pass on 'top tips' and expertise. The course was laid back and informative and at the end I felt confident enough to go and fell a whole forest! Speaking of which the course is held in a very nice woodland, with plenty to crosscut and fell! I was assessed by Roland - couldn't be a nicer guy! I felt completely at ease and able to complete the required questions and demonstration without that (eyes burning into the back of your head feeling) I have already booked to return to complete my climbing course and I am currently eyeing up my third. Also if like me, you want to make your cash go as far as possible with kit and training etc, Roland Heming offers great value for money, even if you stay in the accommodation, it can work out cheaper than others! Great course, fantastic instruction, relaxed environment, highly recommended! Hope the above helps anyone looking to get more tickets or like me start out!
