  1. You’re right, they are a pain to clean but they provide privacy from a block of flats behind them. Is there anything you could recommend to stop the pines from dropping? Would trimming the top of them help by providing more sunlight? Thank you!
  2. Thank you for your replies and explanation on pines. Was hoping for more growth on the lower part of the pine where the branches are, or at least stop pines from dying further up the tree. Sounds like they won’t happen unfortunately. Appreciate your help!
  3. Hello, I am wondering if anyone knows why the bottom of this tree has lost all its pines? It has been like this for at least 8 months now (was planted by previous house owners) and realise it’s probably cramped conditions. I was hoping they would grow back with Spring but it hasn’t happened. It still seems to be growing at the top, but nothing new at the bottom branches. Tree next to it not as bad but also a bit sparse. Is there anything you could recommend to help growth at the bottom? Thank you!
  4. Thank you all, that has given me some hope, will remove lights and try to take care of it as best as possible! Really appreciate everyone’s time with this!!
  5. Thank you very much Stere - not sure of the mentality behind cleaning the trees, I definitely would have left them in peace! Having just investigated it does seem like the leaves are different but they are so overlapped it’s hard to see where one starts and ends. Here are a few more pics:
  6. Here is a view of the tree from upstairs, I guess from amateur eyes it seemed like the same tree. I tried to zoom on the leaves too, one from the right side and one left. Are they two different trees / species? Thank you!
  7. Hi Peds - will take more photos, thank you so much for your detailed reply. I’ll look up how to undertake all those steps, definitely remove the lights and hope for the best. Hi Steve - thanks a lot too for the reassurance and the time. He was only meant to be doing the fence but got very trigger happy with a very powerful and unfortunately not lidl brand washer and thought he would remove algae from the tree too 😔 only took a couple minutes for the bark to change colour like that. Thank you all again.
  8. Thanks for your advice! I believe it is the same tree, all four of the trunks were the same darker colour until the two on the left were ‘washed’. We just moved into the house a few months ago and understand the lights have been on a long time but we will remove them. Is there anything I could look out for if the tree was to start having problems because of its bark being removed?
  9. We managed to stop him before he did the other two trunks, as you can see on in the photos. If there is anything I can do, maybe some kind of protector or sealant to help? Thank you all for reading.
  10. Hello, I am new here and do not know anything about trees. We just moved into a new house where the main feature of the little garden is a beautiful Strawberry tree. Today I went outside to see that my father ‘cleaned’ the tree by power washing the whole bark off it. From what I’ve read this is basically going to kill it. Is this true? Is there absolutely anything I can do to save it? He was trying to do something nice and I wish I had a chance to stop him but it’s too late. Thank you so much for any advice.
