  1. Please ring/text or email before tipping as the site is actually in Blisland. any wood accepted no woodchips. Rings/ lengths. If local I can actually pick up myself with either Pickup or tractor and trailer.
  2. Loved the smell of some of the firs we would come across house would smell handsome when it was next to tge log burner drying. Some were a pain to prcess on the sawbench though as the grain structure made it want to clamp to the blade.
  3. Theres a few up now of ash beech and sycamore but not much, not sure what my landlord would say about tree surgeons tipping in the yard I have thought about it before. Its on a working farm so would be best if I went and got it at least then I can stack it in the right place and not have it tipped in the way. Like I said was only an idea as I ised to enjoy it but its not the end of the world if I couldnt make it work.
  4. My Landlord has loads of trees come down during storms then just drags them out the way and leaves them so I expect he'd let me have them cheap or even for a percentage of what I sell. I wouldnt have many overheads like allot do only fuel, rent (that I pay allready) and the wear on the gear but parts for my stuff is cheap so I can afford to buy some any way. I do see lots of people giving loads away on facebook just have to be quick onit is the only thing but then its the travelling to get it does it make it worth doing.
  5. Yes I'm named after Steven as I think he passed away not long before I was born my father was called Christopher most called him Paul if you remember him. Sadly non are with us anymore, Bruce been gone for about 10 years and dad 5 this December
  6. Tractor driving, engineering anything I can turn a hand to really was thinking about doing fencing and hedgelaying as thats a busy business here.
  7. I got a pick up truck and rent yard space for my gear allready so thats sorted still have all the wood processing kit from dad, chainsaws the lot so I should hope I wouldnt need to buy any thing. I would like to think theres a a market but I know a chap thats planning on going into wood as he goes around with a tree shear on a digger and can get the wood free, then theres probably another 4 or 5 I can think of off the top of my head within 15 miles of me so I imagine its a saturated market and would be pointless attempting it. Was only a thought to get my gear earning some keep again but wasnt exactly going to be my number 1 income.
  8. Tractors, winch, Sawbench, Logsplitter, 4M Hiab, trailers. He done hundreds of tons with it still got it all. No undercover space he always just let it air dry then when seasoned it was processed into trailers left to dry and was ready when people ordered, when he sold a trailer load processed another lot. Think its not really a viable way to do compared to others as they will have the capacity to do more. I dont think I'll end up doing it was just a thought as I used to really enjoy it as a kid
  9. It wasnt a chap called Bruce Menhenitt by anychance? as that was my Grandfather, your account says your in Surrey Granddad and father did move upto Surrey for a while doing the forestry.
  10. Essentially I'm looking to possibly go back in the firewood trade along other things, my father done it and earnt a living off it so did my grandfather. My father packed it in when I was too young to join him but we kept all the gear, nothing fancy but got the job done. Now the issue is alot of houses around me are going electric heating route and having fireplaces ripped out (especially the council houses as thats what happened to us) would you say its worth doing or no? Obviously competing against the lads that kept going would be a challenge but I would be hoping that my last name might bring a few customers because of the good name my father had then hopefully build from there. Another issue is I dont have a kiln is it really that important or have people decided not to think for themselves when judging if a log is too wet to burn now as we never had issues with it before. Sorry for the long post and thanks to anyone that answers. I think I already know what the answer will be.
