Again, thank you to all those who have replied to this post. I think the problem with using a chain oil such as Stihl Synthplus is that the DUC101 has a 10cm bar and chain speed of 8m/sec whereas all the tools quoted have much faster speeds and can presumably handle a more viscous oil. Thinning down seems the best option.

I take your point but am using this saw on a regular basis and at £57/litre was trying to find a suitable cheaper alternative. Used 50ml in a few hours. Maybe I just need to accept that that is the cost for using this saw.

The Makita DUC101 is a battery mini saw and on less than 50% discharge it used about 50 ml of oil which as previously stated works out very expensive.

Thanks for that Stere Gareth M, the Stihl chainsaw oil is to viscous and does not oil the chain (I have tried it) which is why a thinner oil is required and 100ml is supplied with the saw. However, the price is exorbitant

Stere, not sure that there is a ref in the literature. But both the oil supplied with the mini Stihl and Makita are very low viscosity

Thank you Pleasant for your erudite reply. I am of course wiser but in somewhat of a quandary as there were multiple suggestions as which oil to use apart from yours.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this post. Not sure I am any the wiser, the recommended oil by Makita is ridiculously expensive. Have tried the Stihl chain saw oil which I use on my Huskys but is to thick to oil the chain. Maybe the vegetable oil is my best bet.

Have just bought a Makita duc101 mini chain saw. Can anyone recommend a suitable chain oil to use with it. Thank you in advance
