  1. Thanks all for the feedback. Looked at the cheapies on Amazon, but not overly enthused. Have found a very good second hand pair from someone selling their business. All sorted for now until I head back to Africa to recover all my gear! Cheers
  2. Thanks for the intel
  3. Morning all, someone in the UK has asked me about a magnolia growing right next to their house wall. It's a late 17th century, stone rubble building located in the Melksham area. The tree is approx 3.5m tall with a trunk circumference of 50cm. They want to remove the tree completely. The location is sighted as an area of subsidence risk - this would be my main concern, but I am not familiar with root swell on magnolias + these old houses have shallow, direct load foundations (effectively a trench filled with stone). I know it's not a big tree, but any advise would be welcome. Please see photos for reference. IMG_1016.HEIC IMG_1017.HEIC IMG_1018.HEIC
  4. Hi all - I'm looking for a useable set of second hand spikes to buy in the UK. Based near Melksham (Wiltshire) but can arrange postage. If anyone has anything they are wanting to part with, let me know. Ta
  5. Good morning, a friend in Botswana is concerned about ants excavating soil within the root systems of an established Leadwood tree (Combretum imberbe). These ants are doing this in order to construct their nest. They are not feeding on the tree or it’s roots. Can this compromise the structural integrity of the tree? And are there any more potential issues? As far as I am aware, the ants shouldn’t be regarded as a problem. Their presence may even be beneficial. Would be great to hear some comments regarding this situation. Many thanks. Mike
