Hi, Is there a way/device for testing the denisty of ash wood, to see how brittle it has become? Thanks

Is there a way of telling how brittle it becomes? A denisty check of some sort?

It would be great if they did contact me! What is woodlots? I am sure there will be some resistant ones, I have one in my garden that refuses to die no matter what I do to it!

I think we will have to look at that problem in two ways IF the wood is good enough ( Some are pre-emptively cutting the ash down so the wood should be fine) and the wood that isnt will have to go as fire wood, it could it be used for charcoal too?

I am sure you are right there, if it got featured on Grand Designs, it seems a shame that such a potentially versatile wood is just going for fire wood.

Not directly, this question is about research for a project I am developing, having said that I know Sirhowy woodland group (Tredegar) are felling larch, I'm pretty sure they are selling that, if you'd be interested I could pass on your details? Are you after any wood in particular?

The organisation is Wales wide but I am interested in what can be done with ash wood, so location shouldn't matter that much, it just ideas I am after. Thanks

This is for community woodlands so whilst money is important it isn't always the biggest factor, as alot of the work they do is "free" as in the don't charge for their time.

Hello, I am currently doing some research for a community woodland organisation in Wales (Llais y Goedwig), we are looking at what can be done with all of the ash wood once it has been felled, my understanding is that it becomes brittle and can't be used in the same way that unaffected ash wood can? I am no expert I am happy to be told otherwise. What products do people think ash could be used for? Thanks Jayne
