  1. Thanks for your comments. Wise words. We have looked into trackers but it seems that unless you pay a lot of money - £300 a year - most of them can be found and thrown away fairly easily. If you want to protect 3 trailers and 4 pieces of equipment it soon becomes uneconomic. CCTV just gives you a video of your stuff being stolen. Their faces are all covered. Fortunately we were insured but even so the difference between the pay out and the replacement of the equipment is huge. Getting second hand trailers has proved impossible. As soon as you ring up some ads you know the seller is dodgy. Never leave equipment on a trailer is the lesson we have learned, no matter how long it takes to load or unload and read your insurance policy very carefully. It is worth it.
  2. I am not surprised. The insurance company should have sued them for negligence. The police have been totally and utterly useless. In 4 weeks the matter was dealt with by 3 different policemen, all of whom were desk bound and seemed to do nothing but play on their computers. When we had a grinder stolen before it was reported by a member of the public and recovered by the police quickly - amazingly - but it took them 2 weeks to do the forensics and they then charged us £480 storage. We were subsequently told we should have offered to pay a greatly reduced sum, say one day's storage, and if they refused then to lodge a formal complaint. Whether that would work I don't know. All I do know is that I have no confidence in them whatsoever. All they do is issue crime numbers.
  3. thank you. he is insured with the NFU and it is going to be a definite thing in the future if he gets another machine.
  4. Thank you so much for doing that, much appreciated. Tell everyone never to leave a tracked machine on a trailer overnight and make sure any remote control is kept totally separately.

  9. At 4.30am on 8.2.21 our Carlton 7015 Tracked stump grinder was stolen on a tri axle Ifor Williams trailer from Bardfield Saling in Essex. New in 2011, the Carlton is in excellent condition. Serial number 1167156. We have the serial number for the engine and other photos for identification . It was taken without its remote control which is needed to operate it. It had 'Tree Stump Removal' stickers on it when stolen. If anyone hears about one being offered for sale, or is asked about a remote or knows anything about the theft, please contact us. The police and other relevant authorities have been advised. I am posting separately about the other stolen equipment.
