  1. Hi. No changes yet. Installer said he would put 500mm extension on when he sweeps at 1yr(he’s had personal issues which I understand) We have got on quite well if we open the window. No carbon monoxide alarms nor smoke in the room. The last month with warmer weather and winds it’s smoked back several times though, including today. I am still not sure if the external air kit will reduce or improve efficiency thus I might wait for chimney extension. That said the external air kit sounds like the way to harmonise the unbalance.
  2. i think 500mm length and one of those wide bands might work. I am going to order air kit first. Less height in that job. Thank you all. Lit well with window open again today despite feeling a significant draft.
  3. Found the details. It is MI tl pro. I think it will take 1.5m unsupported pipe upward, I think it’s about 500mm to bottom of cowl from bracket so does that mean I can stick 1000mm on top? Does that height include the cowl? Supplier do a few lengths 300,500,1000,1200.
  4. Thank you. I will contact original installer for stack extension. Or ask him what make the twin wall is. external air supply seems sensible to me also. really appreciate the advice
  5. I notice smoke smell down the front of the house when on the drive. That’s what led me to believe I needed the new cowl as I could see smoke curling over ridge, down other side and down the house one evening.
  6. Great idea checking at the y piece. I inspected it the other day for debris. I checked the firebox insulative cheeks and the one on top of fire and the metal plate about a month ago. That was dislodged and I refitted it according to manual.
  7. Sorry for the darkness. Works been dragging on this week. Some dusk pictures and hopefully a video of it just starting up on kindling. Didn’t want to light tonight firelighters started going out, but I caught it before it suffocated itself and the opened window, and away she went. Running lovely now. We only have one extractor fan downstairs, often bathroom upstairs has a window open and one of the teenagers rooms. Although it still behaves the same with all those things off and shut. I have been looking for other sources of negative pressure. I had an old gas fire and it went into a class flue (in the breeze block). It exits on a ridge tile. I was worried about damp forming so left ridge tile and piping in place and fitted a hit and miss vent to the bottom of old flue, which is right behind log burner. I leave it closed but open it from time to time to circulate some air. I wonder if this is causing negative pressure. It seems to feel like a positive draft into room. 8. I don’t think the top of stack is 1m above my ridge but I have only eye balled it.. I will have a look at regs but I really trust his install. I watched him measure the co alarm position with pin point accuracy.
  9. @openspaceman I feel a direct vent might give the stove it’s own balanced system and help it. Is there any disadvantage to direct air supply?? I’ve Googled loads and not really found any. fires lit last 2 days now. Winds changed to NE and I’ve ditched newspaper and using 4 natural wax dipped fire lighters. The wife stands by window and opens it if the fire lighters don’t roar straight away. To be honest though there’s been no visible draft down chimney
  10. @slim reaper that’s the old cowl. The one he put on is the earlier library picture. Checked height above ridge this evening from across the road, with a good eye balling. bottom of cowl is maybe 500mm above ridge. Then cowl is 100-150 ish.
  11. It was dark before I lit it today. This is the original installation pictures. Yes all certified and smoke test done In July. The large conifer trees look quite small in the picture. They were topped in the summer but still shadow the house and around 8m behind the house possibly.
  12. This is the same cowl but not my house. Unfortunately I missed the fitting so don’t know what make or how it works
