  1. The London Plane isn't mine to sell - it has been offered free locally. I only have the capacity to move small amounts, so I've just taken some suitably sized pieces for what I need. Thanks all for the ID confirmation, I think these should be worth a go.
  2. Hi, I'm still looking for suitable logs for growing mushrooms. I'm told this is London Plane - can you tell me if it looks right please? I've been given misinformation before so just wanted to check. Thanks, MBE
  3. Not cut by me, and fresh is best for fungi or they rapidly get colonised by non-edible "weed" fungi.
  4. I cut it again with a hand saw:
  5. Unfortunately not, I even went back but they've done an uncommonly good job of sweeping up. The swarf when I drilled was white.
  6. Thank you. I didn't want to appear disbelieving, just wanted to double check.
  7. Thanks nepia, can I ask what degree of certainty you have? Please don't take that the wrong way - I was told "whitebeam or hornbeam" by the people cutting it down. I was hoping it was hornbeam but it soon became apparent that it wasn't - hence the post. Could it be whitebeam? I didn't offer that information first as I didn't want to give anyone preconceived ideas. I don't think it will be of much use either way, unfortunately.
  8. Hi, could someone give me an ID on these please? I was hoping it might be suitable for growing mushrooms. The last pictures are of where it came from - it's probably another one of those but can't guarantee it. Appreciate any assistance.
  9. It does have little cones on it like a Lawson Cypress. It's not dead yet. Seriously though, how big can I expect this to get in its barrel? Please.
  10. Can't you see the holes underneath?
  11. Thanks Stere, I thought it might be as it seems a bit of a thug. I have moved to a new house with a large but troublesome garden. I am unable to have trees due to underground utilities so it's a bit devoid of height and cover for the birds. Bearing in mind the tree is at least 5 years old and has been kept stunted in a pot, how big do you think it might get now I've given it the biggest pot I can?
  12. Good evening, Could someone tell me what this is please, if the photographs are good enough? It turned up at my old house growing between paving slabs. I liberated it and stuck it in a pot. I like a trier. Thanks, MBE
