  1. Thank you to all who responded to my initial post - much appreciated.
  2. Yes - the scar hole 20-25 feet high on the right of the trunk was big enough for barn owls to live in for some years, and peer out at the house. The tree will be a huge loss when it goes.
  3. Thanks Steve
  4. I should add that I am in Newcastle upon Tyne
  5. I have a large beech tree in my garden (pictured) that has a lot of fungus at its base (pictured). I am told that the fungus is meripilus and that the tree may have to come down as a result. I would be very sad to see it come down, but clearly it will have to if there is a significant risk (it is near a road). Can anyone suggest an expert I can consult to assess the risk, carry out tests, and recommend appropriate action.

About

Arbtalk.co.uk is a hub for the arboriculture industry in the UK.
If you're just starting out and you need business, equipment, tech or training support you're in the right place.  If you've done it, made it, got a van load of oily t-shirts and have decided to give something back by sharing your knowledge or wisdom,  then you're welcome too.
If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
Please have a look around, sign up, share and contribute the best you have.

See you inside.
