  1. UPDATE! - So after cleaning cylinder transfer using brick acid and cotton bud for while and then replacing piston and ring, fired up on second pull! I now have a very smokey running chainsaw so now I need to tune the carb I guessing. But at least she runs! Thanks all for your help! Oh and managed to get a pal to do the helicoil so thats done to! Thanks again
  2. OK Thanks I'll have a look...
  3. Seems Harpic blue is little more difficult I guess Harpic Power plus is a possible workaround as contains the hydrocloric acid same as blue anyone tried that?
  4. Ah OK thanks unfortunately its a 41cc nevermind. Just trying to find some Harpic Blue now to clean off the transfer.
  5. I did find that one of the bolts attaching the carb was stripped and when sprayed in the carb cleaner can see it leaking out between gaskets, so that may also have some bearing. I will of course check the carbs once rebuilt. Also make sure I use the right fuel ? as I dont really have much of a history of the unit.
  6. So I managed to get the cylinder off and the piston is well and truly scored, but to the untrained eye I think the cylinder is OK. I take it its the shiny areas that would need cleaning off of the transfer and then gentle rotational rub with 2 stroke oil with fine wet n dry and then thorough clean after.
  7. Thanks for the suggestion I'll see if have room but have feeling its a little difficult to get behind it to fit one.
  8. Thanks - yeah I'll check out for helicoiling as did it a long time ago as an apprentice, but not recently and will need to get a kit. But as ever thanks for all the suggestions and updates its really appreciated.
  9. OK Cool got it!
  10. I have one for Spares if needed - Or if you like to sell as non runner ?
  11. OK so gonna grab me some Harpic Blue and soak the cylinder then use some wet and dry with it to gently remove any transfer. I take it that rotational movement to remove any transfer much better than the up and down movement mimicking the piston movement? I also have found one of the bolts holding the carb has a stripped thread so that might be a reason was running lean potentially. Not sure how I could then rethread will have a look round to see if there is any ideas to fix that. Thanks all for comments above.
  12. Any tips for cleaning - seen things like oven cleaner which would be fairly cheap.
  13. OK Cool as I really just want to use as learning exercise I guess a few quid and some time not an awful idea. I think I'll get the cylinder off see if thats badly scored and if I clean it up see if a new piston and ring will do the trick.
  14. Sounds like a good saw!
  15. Thats the Badger! Here are some photos with muffler off... Piston looks nasty
  16. OK will inspect with muffler off, yes this marked as easy start - proving to be anything but! LOL But it did try to start when poured a little 2 stroke Oil in the spark plug hole..
  17. Hi All, Just one more question? Worth trying replacing the piston, rings gasket and clean the cylinder? Or not worth the time and money? Seems can get those parts for £25 Rgds CygnusNSF
  18. LOL - thanks all appears the chinese OEM Engine was wrong size - so does appear to be landfill visit for this little saw - I'll try looking around but initial search proving fruitless - Thanks again for the help and comments. RIP Neil Peart. I'll go back to listening to "The Trees" -
  19. Hi All, thanks again for your suggestions and ideas - certainly will be a learning curve. So few little updates. I got this old Chainsaw (I think its 10 plus years old) free as a project. its not seized but I will be inspecting suspect its badly scored up. After looking at the prices of genuine parts I think for a cylinder and piston and bits and bobs its probably not worth me spending Fifty or so quid to get it running on genuine parts. But upon searching ebay I might have had some luck as I think there are cheap Chinese knock off kits from about £16 and as I'm not exactly going to be using as work horse I think for the price of few pints might be fun to have a go *IF* the dimensions match. Obviously will check its physically right first. Thank you again for all the help as a newbie to this kind of thing its great to have such great updates.
  20. Hi All, so as the title suggests I know your laugh but I have for my sins a MITOX 4116 - and its lost compression, but rather than place in landfill or gather dust in the shed - I wondered if anyone knows if a cylinder kit or if I can use a substitute Cylinder and piston kit can be obtained? I know seems a little odd but trying to get my nipper off his PS4 and learn some mechanical skills. Even if someone else has a good spares gathering dust that would also be considered if willing to help. All help greatly appreciated. I have found that its got spark (changed plug), cleaned air filter and checked muffler and if I put a little motor oil in the cylinder directly it will then run for couple of seconds and die. But certainly appears compression is low as can pull rope fairly easily as well and its got fresh fuel and run carb cleaner through it but fails still to start. Stay safe and well Rgds Cygnusnsf
