  1. I managed to pick up a brand new 390xp and some new PPE for £840. Absolutely delighted with the saw; such a difference to my old one and is cutting all my timber with ease. Thanks for the assistance.

Personally I think 28" is the max for that saw . It will pull longer bars but it will be working harder . The old rule of thumb .....Bar length X 3 =  cc of engine .

Ah I see...will look into that then. Thanks!

I dont have a problem with Auto Tune my self as I have 2 saws with it but some people are shy of it . The 390 is a good bomb proof saw IMO . I run mine on a 28" 3/8 set up .

The 28" would be more than enough for my need at present, however, when/if I decide to mill, then the option arises to buy bigger bars.

390XP is a tried and tested saw  ( I have one ) superseding the old 385XP  . No A/T to worry about ( if you are the kind of person that does )  and they respond well to Spud porting them . ?

The automatic parts make me think a) expensive to fix b) i can't fix it myself. Think it maybe a good one to get hold of.

  5. Sorry folks, asked for my account to be deleted here. Unfortunately was sent to the wrong forum though!

Thanks for the replies thus far. Have the PPE, but no formal certificates.

Still in the market for a saw. Have been offered a 390xp brand new for £870 inc vat. Would that seem worthy of stretching the budget a bit?

    Thanks
