Simon, I contacted BALI at the back end of last year and they said I needed the Blue LISS card (skilled operator), although I don't think there's any difference between that and the labourer card, also as crazy as it sounds they said if I held any academic qualifications (NVQ/SVQ/Diploma at Level 3 or above ) I could apply for the Gold supervisors card, but as I'd never worked on a building site before I said "thanks, but no thanks" and even though I've had it for a while now, I've not had a job that needed it.

Hi all,
I've just picked up a S/h Stihl long pole hedge cutter (HL95-2008) and would like to get it going, it needs as a minimum a new fuel tank, I've looked on the internet and can only find OEM parts, as a new tank will cost more than £40 quid. I don't suppose anyone knows of a website that I can get other brand parts from?
Cheers

Hi Sam, If you've got the time and know what kit you want, i'd shop around. It took me a couple of days of trawling the various arb suppliers, but in the end I was able to save a wad of cash by getting the bits off different sites. It was amazing to see the price differences between them.

ERD,
Use the links below to have a browse through the Civil Service guides, the first will give you all the information you will need to fill in the competency questions. The second one will provide a bit more detailed information on what each competency means, use this to structure your answers. Where possible try and build your response with a method like STAR.
Situation
Task
Action (when talking about the action you carried out, try and use I instead of we as they want to understand what you did).
Results (Try and think about the results you achieved, did you save money, time or reduce the effort to do something? If you can list a figure i.e. you saved the company X amount of pounds, or achieved a reduction in X man hours, all the better. But remember the result can be anything just try and quantify it).
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/success-profiles
If you want I can PM you some of the competency responses I've previously sent in, although bear in mind I didn't get a job?

Good morning all,
They say honesty is the best policy, therefore here goes.
I’m just about to leave the services and will be moving to Stokesley (Chop Gate) in the Teesside area and looking for work after the Christmas break, I’ve loads of experience in working and managing small teams and class myself as fairly fit. During the run up to leaving I’ve spent the last 18 months working on my qualifications and have achieved,
City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Forestry and Arboriculture
Emergency First Aid at Work + Forestry
CS30 Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross-cut Timber
CS31 Felling up to 380mm
CS38 Tree Climbing and Rescue
CS39 Aerial Cutting of Trees using Free-fall Techniques
CS40 Aerial Tree Pruning
CS50 Emergency Tree Ops
CS32 Felling Over 380mm
CS45 Supporting Colleagues (Training only)
CS34 Sever uprooted trees
CS35 Windblown trees
Lantra Woodchippers (Operation and Maintenance)
I hold C, C+E and H (tracks) licences and booked on my driver CPC ticket and have completed the H&S 1 day course for my LISS operator’s card.
However the key thing that will matter to most will be my experience, since qualifying I have taken time out to maintain my climbing, but have had limited experience while still working in the military. This aside if anyone is looking for a new team member and willing to give a new bloke a try, or even offer some career advise please get in touch.
Thanks Steve
